About the Breed

Cavoodles (Also known as Cockapoos & Cavadoos) are a cross between Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and Poodle (either miniature or toy poodle).
Cavoodles originate back to America in 1950’s. Breeders experimented to find a dog that is hypoallergenic and stumbled across the right combination between a King Charles Spaniel and a Poodle.

Cavoodles first started growing in popularity in 2009, entering the top 20 of favourite dog breeds. Since 2016, Cavoodles have remained at the top of said list since.

7News reported that the breed took the top spot with 1.3 million searches in 2022.
At that stage, 1-in-5 dogs brought in that year were Oodles (any breed mixed with poodle)

What makes Cavoodles so popular?

Cavoodles became popular for multiple reasons: they're hypoallergenic, great family dogs, great for first pet owners and are quite intelligent.

Due to the cross between Spaniel and Poodle, Cavoodles are less likely to shed, and are less likely to produce dander and flakes of skin. Due to this, they are thought to be great for people with allergies to dogs.

However, no dog is 100% hypoallergenic (depending on details of a person’s allergy and the result of a dog/s coat)

Cavoodles are easily adaptable to most environments and are suitable for a range of ages- making them a fantastic addition to the family.
They have quite an intelligent nature and require good training. Getting the family and kids involved with their mental stimulation and training helps develop healthy habits and bonds.

Cavoodles are also recommended for those with small homes or apartments due to their size but still need regular exercise as all dogs do.

Fun Facts

  • The poodle side of the Cavoodles can lead to high intelligence and make great companions. This can lead to strong personalities but can be managed with proper training and patience.

  • Cavoodles have two main coat types: Silky (Cavalier dominant) or thicker and curly (Poodle dominant).

  • Cavoodle puppies are often inquisitive with a short attention span and will respond better to gentle guidance rather than harsh discipline.

  • Different types of common Cavoodle grooms include: Puppy cuts, Teddy cuts, Lamb cuts, Summer cuts and a full shave.
